The Student Teaching Chronicles v. 1.75

Mood: Quirky Song: "Time...Is on Your Side" I admit it...mea culpa, mea culpa. It's been over a month since my last update. This should not be, but once the rest of the story is told, everything will make sense. First, let me grovel and say that the fact that student teaching is an *UNPAID* internship makes life crazy. Here's my current schedule: Student Teaching: 40 hours/wk. Working: 30 hours/wk. Wedding Details: countless hours/wk. :) :) :). Sleeping: N/A A Day in the Life of a Proto-Teacher, by Juliet (note the absence of proper MLA format :P thbttt) Zero Hour (and the sadistic person who invented THAT one needs to be pelted with copies of the complete works of Shakespeare): English IV (Seniors) First Hour: English IV AP (Good thing they don't realize that I was one of thier ilk and am consequently well versed in thier AP mind games) Second Hour: English Support. Don't even get me started on the whole decision behind THAT one. Third Hour: Prep (i.e. my mentor and I have tea and donuts and plot our world takeover bid or the destruction of the entire NovaNet lab, whichever seems more pressing) Fourth Hour: Stugo: Need I say more? Fifth Hour: English IV AP (N.B. see above) Sixth Hour: Prep (i.e. Wild Party time [okay, okay, not really-just in case the administration is surreptitiously monitoring my blog :). Eye, iz ay gud Ynglysh; techur]) My fiancee has placed me on responsibility restriction, and I have to say I'm somewhat relieved. What with wedding planning, my life is just SLIGHTLY full ;). On the plus side, I am a licensed substitute teacher, and my mentor will be gone Friday and Tuesday (adding to the wedding budget). Hopefully the students and I will all survive the experiment; I'll be on the lookout for nefarious acts of malfeasance (otherwise I may have to commit some myself :) ). ***Embarassing Flashback*** I went to my first faculty meeting and made quite an impression (NOT in a good way). I remember my eyes closing for a second, and I do vividly recall MOST of the meeting, but I think I actually dozed. I thought I would be undetected (the buzzsaw snoring, however, might have given it away ;) ), but on Friday G.H., my fearless leader-type mentor with a Felix the Cat obsession, said, "There's a rumor going around that one of the student teachers fell asleep in the faculty meeting." I had to confess, and I was informed that I am now on the infamous "Fell Asleep" list. Who thinks THAT might have happened to other teachers? I bet the informant was Santa Claus (a.k.a. my old Spanish teacher who has ALWAYS intimidated me). At lunch, I went to visit Mrs. Black, former guidance counsellor morphed into American History teacher extraordinare, who said, "I caught you dozing during the faculty meeting." Can you sense me blushing profusely yet? I have to laugh about it. Next time I'm having a grande nonfat vanilla mocha with one shot airlifted in from the evil corporation that is Starbucks. The way I know so much about espresso drinks even though I abhor coffee is a long and arduous story best saved for...oh, yeah, NEVER! **** I talked to Mir yesterday-she's clearly going to be my sanity through this whole process. She's so balanced it makes me sick. We chatted about how it's really best sometimes to have girl talk...our guys are wonderful but there are just certain topics.... Anyhow, I LOVE making decisions, and I LOVE being the center of attention...that's what I'll tell myself. Of course, on May 27th I'll still want to head for Vegas. We're planning our honeymoon now, and I can't wait; we've decided to drive down the Oregon coast, and we might even be able to see a Shakespeare play in Ashland (we will NOT be staying at my father's house, however ;). There are some times when more than two are definitely a crowd). The Hecita Head lighthouse is on our agenda too, and apparently you can actually stay there. That will be wonderful, especially if we book the room with a view of the lighthouse; wonderful, that is, until 2 a.m. when I have to begin lobbing bricks at the light to make it stop. "The light, the light". More updates as further events warrant...
